ROYAL HOSPITALS SELECTS MAINSAVER v.10 TO DRIVE DEPARTMENT STRATEGY

The Royal Hospitals, Belfast has made the decision to move to version 10 of Mainsaver. The Royal has used Mainsaver extensively for labour tracking, stock control and purchasing over the last 4 years and upgrading to the latest version ensures that they remain completely up to date in delivering a safe and effective healthcare environment. This project will also see the introduction of Mobile Mainsaver, a PDA solution designed specifically to enable departments to manage work across large geographical areas where standard PC access is difficult.

George McCracken, Senior Estates Officer explained the direction of the department; “In order that we can manage budgets effectively we need to have up-to-date access to information regarding workload. We have utilised Mainsaver’s Shopfloor module for many years with the trades persons logging on and off their jobs - the introduction of MobileMainsaver will enable the team to log work whilst out on the site without the need to contact base. This will improve the efficiency of the department without losing the detail of labour utilised.”

Spidex Software Limited are carrying out the upgrade and are ensuring that the Royal Hospital Estates Department lead the way with the technology they deploy. The introduction of PDAs running MobileMainsaver demonstrates the Trust’s commitment to managing its resources and budgets effectively.

Nigel Keery, Estates Manager says; “with the imminent merger under the R.P.A, the Belfast Health Trust will become one of the largest Trusts in Europe. We have a responsibility as a department to provide the highest levels of service and in order that we can manage this effectively we need to demonstrate tight control of budgets, from direct labour to contractors with particular attention on purchasing control. We will be looking to deploy key performance information in realtime with Spidex Software Limited to ensure that the various roles in the department are able to take the necessary action immediately.”

The department’s Key Performance information will be deployed across The Royal Hospitals intranet and the project will introduce individual role-based information portals that will display information from Mainsaver and deliver prompts and alerts to ensure that any remedial action is taken at the earliest opportunity.
